EOA Podcast: Episode 5 – Considerations before, during and after transitioning to employee ownership

The theme of Episode 5 of the EOA Podcast is around the considerations for owners or founders before, during and after transitioning their business to employee ownership.

The episode will hear from three supporter members of the Employee Ownership Association (EOA), who each bring a different perspective and specialism to advise on this topic as we look to help those exploring employee ownership as a possible succession option for their business.

You will hear about the legal, admin, governance, finance, funding and investment considerations for an owner during an employee ownership journey.

Episode 5 interviews

The podcast hears from Stephen Hadlow, a Partner at Brabners, which is an independent, medium-sized law firm in the North. Stephen is part of a team that works with clients to consider their succession options and helps around a dozen companies a year transition to employee ownership.

Head of Credit Greg Beamish represents ThinCats, which offers funding for SMEs to transition to an EOT. He speaks about the considerations for owners seeking third-party funding and how it enables them to take money off the table on day one.

The third of our supporter members appearing is wealth management firm London & Capital. Dan Sawyerr, an Executive Director at London & Capital, speaks about the considerations for an owner thinking ‘what next’ after transitioning their business and pondering investing the proceeds of sale.

As well as the latest news, including about a new EO Learn course the EOA has launched, a reminder to file entries for our EO Stories 2022 competition, and how to book for our latest virtual and in-person events coming up in the next month or so, the episode ends asking someone from within the EO sector ‘why do you love employee ownership?’ This month we hear from Lisa Pogson from Airmaster.
