Smile – it’s 100 days to EO Day

The EOA is today reaching out to its members and stakeholders to prepare them to make some noise for EO Day 2019.

The annual campaign celebrates with our members and stakeholders to raise awareness of the social and economic impact of employee ownership in the UK.

The campaign is a key part of the EOA’s 40th anniversary year which is focussing on the impact of employee ownership on individuals and communities. This year the campaign is supported by employee owned business Gripple.

The theme for EO Day 2019 is ‘what about EO makes you smile?’ which acknowledges the evidence from the Ownership Dividend that employee ownership has an impact on:

  • The well-being of individuals in employee owned businesses: via higher engagement, transparent governance and the ability top up their salaries by sharing in the capital value they create.
  • The communities where employee owned businesses are based: rooting jobs and the business in the locality for the longer term, or in the case of public service mutual reinvesting surpluses into projects that benefit the community.

And that the above gains cement employees’ sense of fairness and happiness at work.

That is why the EOA is asking employee owners, EO businesses and those who support the sector to, celebrate with a smile, help spread a smile and Give a Healthy Smile.

The Give a Healthy Smile campaign is jointly delivered with the EOA and CDS CiC for the EOA’s 40th anniversary appeal to raise £40,000 to support 4,000 children in a tooth brushing initiative to reduce the number of young children having surgery to remove decayed teeth. The appeal aims to create healthy habits for young children to reduce the impact of poor oral health the individuals, their families and the NHS through reduced emergency referrals.

Deb Oxley, CEO of the EOA, said:

“We’re celebrating the impact of employee ownership on the sense of fairness and happiness at work and the impacts employee owned businesses have on the communities in which they operate.

“Our members and supporters never cease to amaze us on the creative and impactful ways in which they celebrate and help raise awareness of the benefits and impact of employee ownership and we can’t wait to see what happens in 2019.”

MD of Gripple, Ed Stubbs, said: “We’re delighted to sponsor the EO Day 2019 in the EOA’s 40th anniversary year as we celebrate our own big anniversary – 30 years of Gripple!

“In our 30th year of trading, through employee ownership we have a proven model for sustainable growth, driven by our people – more than 700 employee owners across 10 global locations.
