EOA offers condolences on death of former John Lewis Partnership Chairman Peter Lewis

We are saddened to hear about the death of Peter Lewis, nephew of the founder of the John Lewis Partnership John Spedan Lewis.

As the EOA’s largest and oldest member there is a long running history with the Partnership, its partners and members of the Lewis family to whom we send our heart-felt condolences.

Peter’s tenure as the Partnership’s third Chairman from 1972- 1993 covered the period in which the EOA was established by our founder Robert Oakeshott in 1979 (then Job Ownership Ltd – JOL) – John Lewis Partnership and another early supporter Scott Bader were instrumental in establishing JOL and supporting it to grow from a movement to becoming an membership association in 2006.

Continuing the links between the Lewis family and the EOA, Peter’s son Patrick Lewis (who worked for the John Lewis Partnership from 1994-2020) became the President of the EOA in September 2020. Patrick took over the EOA President role from Sir Charlie Mayfield (who was the also the fifth Chairman at John Lewis Partnership from 2007-2020).

Our condolences go to Patrick Lewis and family.
