Free Employee Ownership Introductory Workshops for Scottish EO Businesses or those Transitioning to EO
The EOA, in partnership with Co-operative Development Scotland (CDS), has developed a series of bespoke learning workshops available to all employee-owned businesses with operations in Scotland or those transitioning to EO in Scotland.
These free of charge workshops are designed to introduce the key principles of good employee ownership, known as ‘Good EO’, that will support employee-owned businesses to develop and embed an effective employee culture.
1. Governance – The role of EOT Trustees in delivering a thriving EO business
Date: 8 & 14 March 2023, 10am – 4pm, virtual via Zoom (both now fully booked)
This practical, discussion-based workshop is designed to help you understand how an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) governance model works at its best.
What you will learn:
- What you need to know about legal liability, duties and documents (including Deed of Trust, Letter of Wishes, Shareholders Agreement, Articles of Association)
- Getting employee representation and board accountability right
- How the EOT and management board work together to deliver an employee ownership culture
- Dividend distribution – where to start
This session works best when 2 people attend from a business; a trustee from the EOT board (ideally employee trustee) and an individual from the main company management board.
The workshop will be led by Campbell McDonald, who is currently an independent EOT Trustee and has over 15 years’ experience running and supporting employee-owned businesses.

Date: 16 March 2023, 10am – 4pm, virtual via Zoom (now fully booked)
This workshop is for those who are looking to develop their leadership skills to unlock the potential of employee ownership and create high-performing, resilient and innovative teams.
What you will learn:
- An enhanced understanding and capability in core leadership skills
- An introduction to the principles of Growth Mindset
- Authentic leadership – emotional intelligence, influencing others, coaching and feedback
- Developing personal resilience – Growth, attitude to feedback, attitude to failure
We recommend a maximum of 1 person attend from a business.
The workshop will be led by sector experts Telos and J Gadd Associates. Both have proven track records of assisting leaders and managers in EO businesses.

Date: 23 March 2023, 10am – 3pm, virtual via Zoom (now fully booked)
If you have a role that relates to employee voice in your business, this interactive workshop will help you grow your understanding of employee voice and how to effectively capture and amplify this voice to ensure employee owners can be part of the solution to any challenges or opportunities the organisation is facing.
What you will learn:
- What’s needed to succeed as an employee voice representative
- Best practice approaches to employee voice representation
- How to plan agendas and engage employee owners and communicate outcomes

The workshop will be led by Helen Moreton, who has been an active part of the employee-owned sector for more than 20 years. Helen provides consultancy, chairing and independent trustee services to multiple EO businesses of different sizes and sectors.
