10 years EO; how we drove employee engagement through tough times.

“Being employee owned has been incredibly challenging, but fundamentally it has helped us learn to be better leaders and better at business.”

At the time of becoming employee owned in 2012, Scott & Fyfe was already going through massive transformation as the 150-year-old company was diversifying its products and markets in a bid for survival. Not only were employee owners experiencing change in just about every aspect of the business to drive it forward, from the structure and leadership to rapid prototyping and new ways of working, they were adjusting to what it meant to own the company, either directly or indirectly through its Employee Benefit Trust. It was a challenging time for colleagues.

Fast forward to 2020, measures to put employees at the heart of the business led to the company’s best year on record. “Our share price saw a significant increase and we were able to give great profit shares. Some people were in position to retire early. That’s when it hit home how great employee ownership was.”

Join Michelle Quadrelli, Managing Director, along with Scott & Fyfe’s Employee Director and Employee Trustee, to gain insight on their different perspectives and lessons from their EO journey.

You will learn:

  • An honest account of the ups and downs of Scott & Fyfe’s EO journey, and the lessons learned.
  • How Scott & Fyfe overcame barriers to gaining buy-in for being employee owned, and how they keep EO front of mind.
  • The vital role employee trustees and employee directors play in capturing and managing employee voice to connect employees and leaders.
  • The leadership team’s inclusive, supportive and collaborative approach to working with employee representatives, so together they drive the business forward.
  • How Scott & Fyfe give employee owners a greater financial stake and lessons learned.
  • What’s next for Scott & Fyfe as it continues to embed an EO culture.
